CHCANYS EM Team continues to engage in citywide healthcare emergency preparedness activities spearheaded by the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH).
On February 14, 2019, we attended the third meeting of the DOHMH’s Health Care Coalition (HCC) Leadership Council. Here are the highlights from the meeting:
NYC HCC Leadership Council - Meeting #3:
This meeting was jointly hosted by DOHMH and the Queens County Emergency Preparedness Healthcare Coalition (QCEPHC), of which CHCANYS is a member. The meeting was held at the New York City Health + Hospitals' Queens Hospital in Jamaica, Queens. Opening remarks were provided by William Lang, DOHMH's Director for Health Care Coalitions. Mr. Lang was joined by Dean Mihaltses, Chief Operating Officer of the Queens Hospital.
The meeting kicked off with a report by QCEPHC of the coalition activities, including a full-scale exercise, which the coalition conducted in late 2018. The coalition also continues work on creating its website with appropriate resources, including emergency preparedness materials and documents translated in multiple languages that are spoken in Queens.
NYC's Office of Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) staff presented on mass fatality planning considerations. A robust conversation followed, including clarification on OCME's resource availability and clarification of specific plan steps for emergencies. The Unified Victim Identification System (UVIS) was also discussed.
Darrin Pruitt, Deputy Director (DOHMH) presented on city's evacuation and surge planning efforts, followed by an overview of the tools created by the Patient Movement Workgroup at Greater New York Hospital Association, presented by Jenna Mandel-Ricci, Vice President of Regulatory and Professional Affairs.
The meeting was adjourned after a round of questions and answers.
