CHCANYS EM Team continues to engage in citywide healthcare emergency preparedness activities spearheaded by the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH).
On October 25, 2018, CHCANYS team attended DOHMH's Emergency Preparedness Symposium (EPS) meeting, Here are the highlights from this inaugural meeting for this budget year:
Emergency Preparedness Symposium (EPS)
The EPS planning team introduced a new format of this meeting planning. The majority of the agendas moving forward will be developed by different healthcare borough coalitions within the NYC Health Care Coalition (HCC) structure. October 25th’s agenda highlighted the Emergency Preparedness Coalition of Manhattan (EPCOM), formerly known as the New York county Health Resilience Coalition (NYcHRC).
EPCOM presented on the coalition structure, including the background. The coalition also presented on the coalition membership hazard vulnerability assessment (HVA). This was conducted in order to discover commonality between membership risks. EPCOM also presented on Mutual Aid agreements between members, call down drills (other borough coalitions present also shared their experience regarding these), as well as SupplyEx 2018 (a hurricane scenario drill previously held).
Following the initial EPCOM presentation, the group hosted a working session. This included a presentation on the Healthcare Facility Emergency Preparedness Service Model. During breakout sessions, groups focused on coalition structure and emergency management leads’ challenges / solutions at their respective networks.
Additionally, Darrin Pruitt, Director of Healthcare System Strategy, Evaluation and Education (DOHMH) gave an overview and updates on the coalition surge exercise (SurgEx), focusing on overall objectives and the exercise playbook.
The meeting then concluded with quick highlights regarding Mass Fatality Planning and a presentation on The Public Health Emergency Response Network Pharmacy Program (PHERN PP).
The next Emergency Preparedness Symposium is scheduled for February 14, 2019 to be held in conjunction with the New York City Health Care Coalition Leadership Council Meeting.
